A TRACE Booster project driving innovation in textile production
The TRACE Booster project Stem Mill Knowledge Matrix (SMKM) lays the foundation for Stem Mill's future weaving facility, which aims to revive woven textile production in Denmark through an innovative and sustainable manufacturing approach.
Building on Stem's vision as a zero-waste production brand for woven garments, the project brings together 19 knowledge partners to develop a framework for the next generation of textile manufacturing. The collaboration focuses on three key pillars: circular textile infrastructure, agile small-scale production, and education.
Stem's innovative textile system challenges conventional clothing production by eliminating garment manufacturing waste. Using recycled and natural fibres combined with a unique weaving, cutting, and sewing technique, Stem demonstrates how high-quality textiles can be produced with significantly reduced environmental impact.
Building a More Sustainable Textile Industry
SMKM addresses some of the textile industry's most pressing challenges, including waste generation, overproduction, limited local manufacturing capacity, and a lack of specialised educational opportunities. The knowledge and insights generated through the project will support the design and establishment of a climate-positive, low-waste weaving facility, creating the foundation for responsible and resilient textile production in Denmark.
By combining innovation, sustainability, and knowledge-sharing, the project represents an important step towards a more circular and locally anchored textile value chain.
