Biocomposit project on high level summit

The project "Biocomposites to substitute plastic" shared knowledge and progress, when researchers, politicians and organisations met at "Dansk Erhvervs" BioSolutions High Level Summit, at Børsen. The summit focused on Denmark's position of strength within biosolutions and on the sector's opportunities and challenges, with particular attention to promoting the biosolutions agenda when Denmark takes over the EU presidency in 2025.

Trace contributed to the event with the project “Biocomposites to substitute plastic”. Replacing plastic with green alternatives is a more attractive long-term solution than recycling fossil-based plastic. Professor at Copenhagen University, Peter Ulvskov (PI) and postdoc Marwa Faisal presented prototype materials made from sugar beet pulp and a specially bred barley variety. The company Pond Global was also present. They produce resin used in the materials and is one of the industrial partners of the Trace project. Together they created awareness that BioSolutions regard not only what we eat but also the textiles we wear and the packaging we use.
