SUMIT
Lead Organization: Danish Technological Institute
Project Period: April 2026 – April 2029
Pool: TRACE Pool 3.3
Project Status: NEW
SUMIT will develop CO₂ capture and utilization pathways for scalable alternative protein production through integrated microalgae cultivation systems. Building on knowledge from the IFD-funded ReMAPP project, SUMIT will advance strain improvement and technology integration to create a commercially viable protein production platform.
SUMIT will combine CO₂ capture from biogas upgrading with efficient nutrient upcycling from digestates. Currently, biogas plants spend DKK 100/ton to offload digestate, with plants typically generating ~500,000 tons annually. SUMIT will transform this cost burden into revenue through nutrient recovery technology to produce clean, bioavailable nutrients for microalgae cultivation.
Participating partners: Danish Technological Institute, NordicFlexHouse ApS, Nordphos ApS, Solrød Bioenergy ApS.
Themes: The project SUMIT is part of Theme 2 Green transition and land use and Theme 4 Carbon balance and management.
